Udaipur is a lovely land around the turquoise water lakes, defined in by the lavish hills of the Aravalis. Situated in the southern part of Rajasthan, India, it is known for its enticing historical places. The white palaces, exquisitely laid out gardens and the lakes make Udaipur seem almost like a mirage in the desert. The founder of Udaipur was Maharana Udai Singh and the city was named Udaipur after his name.

The City Palace
Overlooking the aquamarine expanses of the lake Pichhola stands the splendid City Palace - a marvel in granite and marble. The three Mahals - Baari, Dilkush and Moti are known for its beautiful peacock mosaics; the shrine of Dhuni Mata and the museum of Rana Pratap are the highlights of this complex. Built in the early 18th century, City Palace is surrounded by beautifully constructed Jagdish Temple, which houses some imposing sculpted figures and heavily ornamented interiors and Sahelion-ki-Bari or the Garden of Maidens, which has four pools and delicately carved kiosks and elephants in marble.

The Lake Palace
This lake palace was built in the 17th century on a natural foundation of 4 acer of rock. This palace have beautiful courtyards lined with columns, pillared terraces, fountains and gardens. The rooms are decorated with cusped arches, inland stones of pink, and green lotus leaves and painted mirrors.

Places to visit
Pratap Museum
Pratap Museum possess some of the oldest sculptures and inscriptions. The antique paintings of Mewar, the turban of prince Khurram later on called Shahajahan, who built world famous Taj Mahal has also been displayed here.

Jagdish Temple
The temple of Jagannath Rai, now called Jagdishji, is a major monument and should be seen carefully. Raised on a tall terrace and completed in 1651, it is a tribute alike to the tenacity of its builders and the resilience of the art - tradition it represents.

Dudh Talai
A beautiful laid out "Rock Garden" from where one can enjoy sunset view in Lake Pichhola and panoramic view of old city. Musical Fountain is an added attraction for the visitors.

Gulab Bagh & Zoo
A spectacular rose garden laid out by Maharana Sajjan Singh, is situated near the palace on east side of Lake Pichhola. Along with animals such as tigers, leopards, chinkara and many wild animals, a library in the garden has a rare collection of ancient handwritten manuscripts and books.

Pratap Smarak (Memorial)
Atop the Moti Magri or Pearl Hill, overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake is the memorial of the Rajput hero Maharana Pratap with a bronze statue of the Maharana astride his favorite horse "Chetak".
